Biography
Dr. Hyun Jong Yang is an Associate Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Seoul National University (SNU), Seoul, Korea. He received the B.S. degree in 2004, and the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in 2006 and 2010, respectively, all in electrical engineering from the Korea Advanced Institute of Science and Technology (KAIST) .
His professional career includes serving as a post-doctoral researcher at the Korea Research Institute of Ships & Ocean Engineering (KRISO) (2010–2011) and Stanford University (2011–2012). From 2012 to 2013, he was a Staff II Systems Design Engineer at Broadcom Corporation, where he developed physical-layer algorithms for LTE-A MIMO and served as a 3GPP RAN1 delegate. He was also the Founder and CEO/CTO of EgoVid Inc. (2016–2020), focusing on privacy-preserving deep learning. Before joining SNU in September 2024, he held faculty positions at UNIST (2013–2020) and POSTECH (2020–2024).
Dr. Yang’s current research interests include AI-RAN (AI-native Radio Access Networks), 6G wireless communications, distributed learning, mobile edge computing (MEC), and connected robotics .
An IEEE Senior Member, Dr. Yang currently serves as an Editor for IEEE Transactions on Communications, IEEE Internet of Things Journal, and IEEE Wireless Communications Letters. He was also the Guest Editor-in-Chief for the JCN Special Issue on AI-RAN in 2026 and serves as the Vice Chair of the Information Services Committee for the IEEE ComSoc Asia Pacific Board sine 2026.
